Film Review

Hunger Games

The Hunger Games is an outstanding film directed by Gary Ross and also was published by Suzanne Collins.

The Hunger Games is a dark minded well thought event were 1 boy and 1 girl are selcted from 12 districts from North America who are thrown into an arena were they fight to the death until one remains. Katniss Everdeen is the main character of the film and she is a noble 17 year old who volunteers for her Little sister primrose for the Hunger Games. The idea of this brings attention and suspense to the audience and gets them to carry on watching because of how fascinating the storyline goes.

All 24 tributes are taken to the capitol to train for the games and gain sponsors to help them in the games when they are desperate for help. It is an intellgent idea that the rich people get 24 poor young boys and girls to fight to the death.

When the 24 tributes are taken to the arena there are weapons and useful gear to survive and kill layed around the cornuocopia which is surronded by the tributes. There could have been more action during the action scenes but because the director made it a 12a rated film they had a limited about of gory scenes. Katniss(the main character) shows survival skills throughout the film, she is intellgnet and stealthy. The director has thought well as she isn’t as strong as the other tributes and leaves her as an all rounder. What the director  has done is made Katniss look like she is the most advanced and skilled to all the other tributes whcih leaves her at a disadvantage to target her.

There is a lot of jaw dropping and emotional scenes which gives the movie a good mix between differnt genres. At the end of the film the Gamemaker annonces two tributes from the same district can win thats when Katniss wins the games with the tribute also chosen from her district, Peeta Mellark.

This links to the topic ‘the rugged individual’ because katniss has to survive in the dark woods and make sure she is not killed by other tributes.

This Film was well thought and brought a lot of audeinces attention and it is loved across the world. I would give this film a 9.5 out of 10 because of the facisnating ideas, emotional secenes and outrageous action scenes.

  1. Excellent film Journal Entry which unlocks the first part of “Wide Reading”.
Because it does not make a connection with the Theme that you are investigating it is not possible for it to be awarded the “Theme Study” badge.
You will need to think about the Theme and do some work to improve to get it to that level.

NB it is “There could have ” not “There could of”.

  2. Good improvements made. Theme Study 1 unlocked.
